Navy
BUPERS XML Namepace

| TECHi2 developed
XML Namespace helps US Navy take the next step in
planning and implementing XML for the Bureau of Personnel
(BUPERS). BUPERS is the Navy’s functional area manager
for Manpower and Personnel data and operational systems.
The XML Namespace is being developed to enable integrated
data and information exchange among new and legacy
systems while adding Semantic Web capabilities. This
is the first comprehensive XML Namespace developed
in the Navy based on a thorough analysis of production
databases and primary business processes. An important
component of this project is determining the savings
and efficiencies made possible through the design,
development, and use of the XML Namespace in comparison
with commonly used but more laborious data architecture
methods. XML namespaces allow reusing metadata that
describe and mirror core data elements and application
attributes. Another key benefit is the “X” in XML,
namely, its extensibility that enables easy low-cost
changes to even complicated schema compared to the
costly and time-consuming data architecture approaches
used today. |
